Queens Flora
Queens Flora is a poetry project about the plants of the Ridgewood Reservoir. Performed accompanied by music and dance at the reservoir in September 2019, the poems use plants as an entry point for exploring the gifts of connecting to local ecology, histories of colonization, and climate change. Sponsored by Queens Council on the Arts. Booklet designed by Yo-E Ryou.

Hydrologic Sestina
hydrologic sestina
Video poem by Libby Mislan and Yo-E Ryou
2min 46sec, single channel video, stereo audio
"hydrologic sestina" was inspired by a rainy walk on 5th avenue in sunset park, brooklyn, on the night of the mid-term elections in late 2018.
contrasting mundane moments of everyday life in this primarily latinx community with the unfolding high stakes political activity, the poem is textured by weather patterns that remind us to look through a macro lens and be critical about human power-hoarding.
a "sestina" is a french poetic form that repeats the end words of the first stanza in different orders throughout the subsequent five stanzas.
