Whether you are an artist, student, non-profit organization, small business, or company, let me support you in taking the next step towards your vision!
For as long as I can remember, I’ve helped the people in my life with writing-related projects. Whether it was a cover letter or resume, a wedding speech or college application essay, a proposal or grant, I always felt gratified in helping people experience the satisfaction that comes with feeling, quite simply, like they’d found the right words.
The process of shaping my own path as a poet, teaching artist, and community-based arts practitioner requires me to constantly innovate visions from scratch, and share myself and my ideas clearly in writing. After being awarded grants for my creative practice over the course of 5+ years, I began to support other artists in applying for grants, with consistent success. There has been a slow and natural progression towards my offering of practical writing services on a professional level.
If you are in the idea phase of a project, or just need a round of final edits on something you’re preparing to send off, I can provide support at any stage of the process! Here are some of the kinds of writing projects I help with:
Grant applications (specializing in but not limited to arts, arts education, and community-related fields)
Personal narratives for businesses or individuals
Website content
Artist bios and artist statements
Press releases
Pitches and project descriptions (for film/media or other fields)
Special occasion speeches (for weddings and birthdays)
College, grad school, and scholarship application essays
Resume rewrites
I know that finding the right words for projects that you care a lot about can feel intimidating. I am here to affirm you on your journey, and to help bring out your unique voice and brilliance!
My credentials in this work include:
Success in receiving personal arts grants at the city and state levels
Success in writing and receiving arts grants on behalf of others
Sitting as a panelist for Queens Arts Fund grants
Years of professional work in guiding young people in writing personal statement essays for college applications
My services generally fall into one or more of the following categories:
Concept and Vision-Shaping Services This service level is for you if your idea is “somewhere in there,” but you’ve been struggling to find the words or the exact shape your vision will take. Generally, we’ll have a conversation to help clarify and articulate your vision— all the while maintaining the unique integrity of your idea. (I am also happy to thought-partner with you, offering potential directions for a project, if that is something you’re interested in.)
Drafting Services This service level is for you if your idea is fully formed, and you are seeking support in putting it into writing. Generally, we’ll have a conversation (or a series of conversations, depending on the project scope) in which I take notes and make sure I have all the necessary information— and then I’ll get down to the writing task.
Editing and Revising Services This service level is for you if your idea is already in writing form, but you are seeking technical, structural, or content-related edits. Generally, we’ll have a conversation about what kind of revision you are seeking, and I’ll do a deep read of your work. I’m available for one or more rounds of comments, depending on your needs.
Pricing: Because every project has such unique needs, please contact me at [email protected] with your inquiry, and we can decide if it feels like a good fit to work together. From there, I can draft up a projected scope of work and budget that you can approve or amend. My work operates on a sliding scale fee basis, with costs falling between $40-75/hour.
To consider before reaching out: If you are working on an application that is time sensitive, please make sure to contact me well in advance of the deadline, so we can work together without urgency. Keep in mind that if you contact me too close to a deadline, I may not be able to meet your project request in time.
